An intern for the fall term
This last fall, Services d’édition has taken on an intern, René Flageole. The purpose of this internship, which is now an integral part of the writing certificate offered at Université de Montréal (see course catalogue), is to acquire practical editing experience in a work environment through observation, specific tasks and integration activities.
Our “work environment” is our extranet, which René was able to access just like all our collaborators do. He worked on real files, under the supervision of Guy Connolly. Among the documents he has had a chance to work on were the first phase of editing of two liaison bulletins, a set of biographical notes and proofreading of a content-rich Web site.
René completed all the courses leading to his diploma by now.
Illumination of a Mile End landmark
Services d’édition Guy Connolly is proud to have been participating in a lighting program for an important building in the Mile End neighbourhood: St. Michael’s & St. Anthony’s Church, located at the corner of Saint-Urbain and Saint-Viateur. We foresee an even brighter summer for 2013.
Designed by architect Aristide Beaugrand-Champagne and decorated by the famous Guido Nincheri, the church was originally built to serve the local Irish community. Today, it is frequented and run by the Polish community of Montréal.
Erected in 1915, the byzantine-style building is as elegant and sophisticated as ever. The dome and bell tower—resembling a minaret—loom over the Mile End.
For now, illuminations are planned for Saturdays and Sundays as well as holidays, from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. throughout the summer.
Services d’édition is a proud partner of the Mérites rédactionnels SQRP competition

The Canada Media Fund opts for Services d’édition
Since 2011, Services d’édition has slowly become the main translation services provider of the Canada Media Fund (CMF).
“The Canada Media Fund (CMF) champions the creation and promotion of successful, innovative Canadian content and software applications for current and emerging digital platforms through financial support and industry research. Created by Canada’s cable and satellite distributors and the Government of Canada, the CMF aspires to connect Canadians to our creative expressions, to each other, and to the world.” (Mandate and Vision, CMF).
We believe that we will be able to maintain the trust and confidence of the CMF’s Marketing and Communications Department for a long time to come.
Extended mandate for SEGC, official linguistic services provider for Héma-Québec
Two years ago, following an invited tender, Services d’édition was given the honour of being selected by Héma-Québec as provider of all the linguistic services required by the organization.
These services primarily include translation (mostly from French to English), but also copy-editing, proofreading and terminological advising in both languages. Documents are varied, and include the annual report.
We were very pleased to find out that this mandate has been extended for a period of one year.
Corporate training: copy editing and proofreading
Publishing, communications, advertising
Your staff members have to deal with file exchanges between writers, editors and production managers. They have to work together and strive for perfection.
Services d’édition provides work strategies for editing texts using the “Track Changes” feature already included in your Microsoft Word software.
Once the layout is complete, we provide other strategies for proofreading in PDF using tools from Adobe Acrobat (version 8).
Two separate training blocks: one in copy editing and one in proofreading. Meetings take place in the company’s own offices in a computerized environment.
Each block includes two three-hour sessions: introduction to the working method, list of points to watch out for, demonstration and exercises followed by correction and discussion in the second session.
The workshops, which are prepared as modules, can easily be adapted to the needs and contents typically dealt with by the various organizations and companies. While the sessions are only offered in French, the same methods apply for English texts.
